Tips to improve our artwork

Journal Entry: Sun May 20, 2012, 6:01 AM

♣ Hard working - constantly practice even when we don't want to draw.
♣ Learning from others artists - no matter who is it, from beginner to master, we can always learn something from them.
♣ Learning from audience - carefully consider comments from other people, their opinions are valuable.
♣ Accept our own weak points - though it is so hurtful, look for them - try improving them instead.
♣ Always be a beginner - there are many things beyond than we have ever realized. Let's open our mind and learn new stuff.
♣ Don't waste your time on choosing tools - choose the appropriate materials - what we like the most is the perfect one.
♣ Only taking a break but don't give up - there are numerous obstacles that await for us in this path - confront and fight them!
♣ Basics are the most important part- then we can adapt to anything we want.
♣ Believe in ourselves - self-esteem needs to be added to ingredient in our work.
♣ Not only knowledge but also experience.
Keep reminding ourselves that we started drawing because we enjoy and love to do it.
Turn our suffering to be a magic moment ! - every time drawing or painting hurts you, it means you are improving - keep going !

These are what I always remind myself repeatedly.
I hope it's helpful. Let's do our best ! ^^

thank you very much  I just entered a phase where I hate practicing the basics (it's so boring) but it's good to think that when it's painful it actually means I am improving. This will get me through these sessions!

All very true! I think also doing studies is very important as well. Like studying materials from life with still life painting, or photo studies of objects and people.

great advises :D i was always looking for help, but just realized i do everything u stated up there :) just another question o:
would sketching (copying other people's work, by constructing the pose and everything first in rough) help me learn more or drawing on my own?
well i do both, but i sketch most of the time atm since i started 2 months ago :P need to learn more about how the face/body would be like, i also looked at lots of references :)

Yes it is very important to me to remember why I started drawing in the first place.
You must always remember to draw what you love, or you'll never enjoy what you're doing.

there's just one more thing i would add - don't be afraid to challenge yourself, but at the same time don't force yourself to use a medium or draw a subject you know you don't enjoy; drawing is for pleasure, you shouldn't make it a chore! :3

other than that, this is really awesome advice. thank you! C:

well put and very true!another thing ive learned through experience is to not be afraid to experiment with different styles/art forms that one wouldnt normally do;in this way,the artist gains insight into other fields, techniques and attains a wider view over ones own works and that of others!
thank you for sharing your great tips!!!!RESPECT!!!!!
